For almost 20 years, Stable Strides Farm has been helping hundreds of adults and children. We are an award-winning program, grateful to have the opportunity to share our world with you. Therapeutic horseback riding can benefit a wide range of disabilities. Physical, emotional, social and cognitive challenges can be improved through the unique relationship between horse and rider.
All of our coaches are certified through PATH Intl. Our horses are carefully selected and evaluated. They are exceptionally sensitive to their riders and love their jobs. We are so fortunate to have these gifted horses thanks to the amazing generosity of their former owners.
SSF was created to give riders with special needs a place to become competitive and effective horse people. Although competing is not a requirement, many of our riders enjoy going to horse shows with the hope of winning tangible awards. Our competitors participate at horse shows with classes for riders with special needs.
We attend Special Olympics, American Quarter Horse Assoc., National Snaffle Bit Assoc., and Palomino Horse Breeders of America horse shows. Also, we compete at the All American Quarter Horse Congress, Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo Top Hands, and Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Chisholm Challenge. Many riders enjoy showing at these able-bodied shows. We travel north, south, east and west!
To teach independence in life through independence in riding
The Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International was originally founded in 1969. It is a federally registered 501(c3) nonprofit to promote equine assisted activities and therapies.
PATH Intl is dedicated to the highest industry standards for safety and professionalism for individuals with special needs to reach their optimal outcomes.
Riding a horse can move the rider's body in a manner similar to the human gait, allowing an improvement in muscular strength.
Working closely with horses and volunteers inspires students to build self-esteem and further socialization, and can provide both students and their families with a sense of community and belonging.
Individuals with emotional challenges can form a unique relationship with the horse. This leads to increased confidence, patience and self esteem.
Cognitive abilities can be improved through multistep learning, planning and memory development.
We have seen our riders speak their first words, walk their first steps and get their first jobs.
At Stable Strides Farm we do not focus on the riders disability, but their ability and the possibilities. Each rider is met in the place they are and asked where they want to go.
Our riders are winning inside and out of the arena. SSF has won several Top Club and Reserve Top Club awards. Our riders have won national and world recognition in AQHA, NSBA and PHBA.
We are beyond proud of the perseverance, trust and dedication shown by all our riders and their families.
